final in drawing 3

A piece I'm working on that reflects and embraces femininity.
I feel like it needs something though...

yarn

I originally started with just the inspiration from the texture of the moss and had only wanted to respond to that, however, it was suggested that I take it further and consider the surrounding area. Not really sure how I felt about that, so I just went a little crazy.

zebra and flowers.

It's been a long, slow process finishing homework. I was exhausted after working all day yesterday. I didn't even get home until 11pm, so needless to say, I didn't work on anything last night, but I managed to finish my bed this morning. I don't have a steady enough hand, nor a small enough brush to include each flower pattern on the front of my pillowcases, but I did add circles that replicate the flowers.

I still haven't touched up the colors on my 10 foot drawing, but here it is in it's entirety.

I thought I had card stock around here somewhere...turns out that I don't. Looks like I'll be making a trip to the store to start on my pop out cut outs.

what to read, what to read....

I hope after the semester is over I gain some free time to squeeze in some reading. I don't do it often, but I'd like to change that. I don't generally like typical novels though. I prefer reading magazines, books with lots of imagery or mangas. If I do find myself reading a traditional novel, it's generally one that I can either learn from or relate to.

So, currently, a large portion of the books I have interest in purchasing to read are design related. Though there are a couple that are not.

1. Sizes May Vary: A Workbook for Graphic Design
2. Photo Idea Index: Places
3. Women of Design
4. Complete Color Index
5. For Sale
6. FontBook
7. Kawaii Not: Cute Gone Bad
8. The Designer's Guide To Marketing And Pricing
9. Sustainable
10. Icons of Graphic Design
11. The Production Manual
12. Sonic: Visuals For Music
13. Print Liberation
14. All About Me
15. Student Cookbook: Healthy Eating
16. College Vegetarian Cooking
17. Caffeine For The Creative Mind

This is only a portion of the list. And realistically, I'll probably never read even 1/4 of these, but I still keep a list for the one day that maybe, just maybe, I'll have some extra money to spend.

inspiration and intrigue

Here we go!
This is going to be a combination of my progress through
Design 2 as well as Drawing 3.

3 artists I find incredibly inspirational are:

Brian Ewing (my idol)
Daniela Uhlig
Nadia Flower

I want to minor in Illustration (because it is difficult to find a school that offers it as a major, and I love Graphic Designing just a bit more), so naturally, each artist is an Illustrator. I find each inspirational for different reasons:
Brian, for his success with heavy weighted outlines that I always get critiqued for when they end up in my still life drawings. And for additionally finding such success with his art in the music industry, which ultimately is my dream after college.
Daniela, for mastering illustration of the human figure. Though it's often exaggerated, her skill is clearly evident. I also admire her technique and style.
And Nadia, for creating such feminine and yet powerful images. I believe it says a lot about her as a person and as an artist.

As I now search through the portfolios of the artists on the NY Drawing Center's website hoping to find something inspirational, I'm finding it difficult to find anything appealing to me...Though I have appreciation for the concept behind many of the pieces I have already viewed, I still have yet to find anything visually interesting...

I tend to be attracted to pieces that when you look at them you say "What...?" But that also reflect talent, skill and a thought process.
